Work in progress

I am currently working on two major new projects, one non-fiction and one fiction.

You Can’t Hide in the Desert
My non-fiction work about the spectacular mistake I made when I followed the mister to Abu Dhabi and what I had to do to fix it. It’s got everything: searing heat and sandstorms, death and grief, and a middle-aged librarian staging her first solo comedy show. If you want a sneak preview, there’s a piece, ‘Whatever Works’, in the first issue of the Kill Your Darlings journal.

The Butcher’s Daughter
A childhood game gone desperately wrong has left Annie’s family shattered, her father possessive and over-protective, her mother an alcoholic. Their lively house grows dark and claustrophobic.

When Annie finally leaves her home for university she is determined that she will never look back but only months into her studies, her father’s premature death forces Annie not only to return to her mother’s home but to take on the family business, the local butcher shop. Trapped and stifled, only her unconventional relationship with two lovers sustains her.

When even they betray her, Annie tries to settle for a safe and simple life of marriage to the boy next door, but when her lovers return and they try to recapture a youthful love gone wrong, the ghosts from Annie’s past gather, forcing her to make one final, terrifying confrontation.
